Sailing Near The Former Key Bridge

Sailing SV Viewfinder near the remains of the Key Bridge was bittersweet. Matt and I have worked on our boat for months trying to ger her sea ready. We were so proud of ourselves raising up the sails for the first time together. And yet, I couldn’t stop thinking about the lives lost when the bridge collapsed. It is especially heartbreaking as the victims men who spent their days working jobs that keep cities running yet are so often overlooked, underappreciated, and vilified in this MAGA-fueled climate. I can’t help but see my father in every single Latino man. I know how hard he works, how much time he spends away from his family, because I grew up with that too. He was gone a lot, working to give us a better life. You don’t get that time back. Ever.

The weight of that tragedy still lingers over the harbor months after.
